Mexico City International Airport

Mexico City International Airport (IATA: MEX) is the international airport serving Greater Mexico City. It is the busiest airport in Mexico and the second busiest in Latin America by passenger traffic. According to aircraft movement, it is the busiest airport in both Mexico and Latin America. The airport provides 35,000 direct and 15,000 indirect jobs for the surrounding regions. The airport, owned by Grupo Aeroportuario de la Ciudad de México, is operated by the state-owned company Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares. This company also operates 22 other airports throughout Mexico. In recent years, Toluca Airport has become an alternative airport.

Metro and Bus Services

Terminal Aérea Metro station, belonging to Line 5 of the metro, provides access to Terminal 1 and operates from Pantitlán station to Politécnico station. It is located just outside the national terminal. In addition, trolleybus line G departs from the bus stop next to the Metro to Boulevard Puerto Aéreo station, 1.7 km away, and offers a transfer to Metro Line 1. Terminal 2 has no metro station, but from Pantitlan it is possible to walk 700 m (2,300 feet) and catch Metro 1, 5, 9, A and many local buses.

Terminals 1 and 2 have a bus terminal that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Various buses offer continuous bus service from here to the main cities around Mexico City, Córdoba, Cuernavaca, Pachuca, Puebla, Querétaro, Tlaxcala and Toluca.

In 2010, former Governor of the Federal District Marcelo Ebrard announced that Metrobus Line 4 would be built from Buenavista station in the west of the city to Mexico City airport. Construction on Line 4 started on July 4, 2011. The plan for Line 4 foresees two phases of construction, the first of which is 28 km long (to be built between Buenavista and Metro San Lázaro). The extension line will operate between San Lázaro and the airport. The line was opened on April 1, 2012.
