Stuttgart Airport

Stuttgart Airport (IATA: STR) is the international airport of Stuttgart, the capital of the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Named after Stuttgart's former mayor, Manfred Rommel, the airport is Germany's sixth busiest airport and had 10.5 million passengers pass through its gates in 2015. The airport, which is an important hub for Germanwings, hosts long-haul flights to various cities and holiday destinations in Europe and to Atlanta.

Located approximately 13 km south of Stuttgart, the airport is located on the borders of the nearby towns of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Filderstadt and Stuttgart itself. In 2007, Stuttgart Trade Fair, Germany's ninth largest exhibition center, was moved to the area right next to the airport. In addition, the headquarters of the global car parking company APCOA Parking is located here.

Therefore, a new long-distance train station will be built near the airport's existing suburban station. The new station, where ICE high-speed trains will pass, will be connected to the new line with an underground tunnel.
