Kuala Lumpur Airports

Kuala Lumpur International Airport

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) (IATA: KUL) is Malaysia's main international airport and one of the major airports in South East Asia. Built for 3.5 billion dollars, the airport is located approximately 45 km south of Kuala Lumpur city center and in the Sepang district of Selangor. The airport serves the Greater Klang Valley urban region.

KLIA is Malaysia's busiest and largest airport. In 2015, it hosted 48,938,424 passengers and 726,230 tons of cargo. It is the 23rd busiest airport in the world by total number of passengers.

Operated by Malaysia Airports (MAHB) Sepang Sdn Bhd, the airport is used as an important hub by Malaysia Airlines, MASkargo, AirAsia, AirAsia X, Malindo Air, UPS Airlines and Gading Sari.

Land Transportation

Transportation Between Terminals

Automated passenger transport system Aerotra connects the flight zone section of KLIA's Main Terminal Building (MTB) to the Satellite Building. The trains, each with a capacity of 250 passengers, can carry 3,000 passengers in each direction at a speed of 56 km per hour. These trains, which are driverless and consist of three cars, are elevated and pass under the taxiway. The journey takes under two minutes. The Aerotrain operates with a three- and five-minute break between terminals.

KLIA Transit and KLIA Ekspres provide the connection between klia2 and KLIA Main Terminal Building (MTB). The journey between terminals takes 3 minutes and then continues towards KL Sentral.

External Links

Kuala Lumpur International Airport is connected to the KL Sentral transportation center in the city center by the 57 km long Express Rail Link (ERL) railway.

There are two ERL stations from the airport: KLIA station at the Main Terminal Building and klia2 station at Gateway@klia2. Two train services provide transportation to the airport via ERL:

KLIA Express: The airport's rail system that operates non-stop between KL Sentral and KLIA. The journey takes 28 minutes from KLIA and 33 minutes from klia2, with a two-minute stop at KLIA.

KLIA Transit: Commuter rail service operating between KL Sentral and KLIA with three additional stops (Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya/Cyberjaya and Salak Tinggi). The journey takes 35 minutes from KLIA and 39 minutes from klia2. It is not possible to register for flights at KLIA Transit stations.

Taxi and limousines

Airport taxis and airport limousines are provided by Airport Limo. Taxi and limousines are available at taxi and limousine desks. They depart from the airport to points in the Klang Valley and Greater Klang Valley. Fares are calculated and paid at taxi desks and according to the region of the destination. Between 00.00 and 05.00, an additional fee is added.

Bus

Both public and private buses connect KLIA and klia2 to various destinations in Kuala Lumpur and beyond.
