About Brussels

The largest city of Belgium and the capital of the European Union, Brussels is best known for its various architectural symbols, as the center of the world's most powerful international organizations such as the EU and NATO, and its incredible desserts are also very popular. Belgium is a bilingual city, with all road signs and services written in both French and Danish. The center of Brussels is home to museums such as the Belgian Comics Centre, the Army Museum and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts.

Brussels is famous for its food. Belgian waffles are a light and sweet local delicacy. The city is famous for its beer called Lambic, which is produced using a different fermentation technique than ales or lagers. Visit Brussels and try these local delicacies and many other foods such as chocolate and moules-frites. The city is located in the very center of Europe and is therefore the most accessible route on the continent. Travel to Brussels and discover what the city has to offer. Brussels travel guide will help you get to know the surroundings.

When to Go to Brussels

There's no such thing as a bad time to go to Brussels. It doesn't snow much in the city, and temperatures almost never drop below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Some major annual events, including the Belgian Beer Festival, are held each month in September, coinciding with the Comic Book Festival, while the Brussels Tango Festival and the 20 km Brussels Run are held in April.

Brussels Airports

Brussels Airport

Brussels Airport (IATA: BRU) is an international airport located 6.5 nautical miles (12 km, 7.5 mi) northeast of Brussels, the capital of Belgium. In 2015, 23 million passengers arrived or departed from Brussels Airport, making it the 21st busiest airport in Europe. The airport is located partly in Zaventem, partly in the Diegem region of Machelen and partly in Steenokkerzeel, Flemish region of Belgium. The airport, which provides direct employment for nearly 260 companies and 20,000 people, is also the home base of Brussels Airlines, Jetairfly and Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium.

Land Transportation

Path

It is possible to reach Brussels Airport by car via the A201, which connects directly to the Brussels Ring Road. From there there is direct access to Belgium's main highways. Private companies provide three parking services at the airport and have a total of 10,600 spaces. Shell operates a self-service gas station near the airport complex exit.
There are also several car rental companies at the airport. Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Thrifty all operate at Brussels Airport.

De Lijn provides bus transportation from platforms A and B (via Brucargo) to and from various cities in Flanders. MIVB/STIB operates from platform C to Brussels Luxembourg Station in Brussels city center via line 12 (weekdays before 20.00) or line 21 (weekends and evenings after 20.00). Platform E, on the other hand, offers shuttle service to several hotels in the region by Hotel Shuttles.

Taxis are always available in front of the arrivals hall. The fare from the airport to Brussels city center is normally around 45 Euros. Licensed taxis can be recognized by their blue and yellow logos.

Railway

The Airport Railway Station is located on level 1 under the airport building. There are direct connections from the train station to Antwerp, Brussels, De Panne, Ghent, Hasselt, Landen, Leuven, Mechelen, Nivelles and Quévy. At least four trains per hour reach the most used connection point, Brussels South Railway Station, and the international transfers and providers that can be made from here are as follows: Eurostar (to London), Thalys (Amsterdam, Avignon, Cologne, Essen, Lille, Marseille, Paris and Valence), ICE (to Cologne and Frankfurt) and Eurocity (to Basel, Bern, Chur, Luxembourg and Zurich).

As of December 2014, there will be direct train services between Bruges and the airport and between Schiphol and Amsterdam as an intercity service.

Tram

To ease traffic around Brussels, regional transport company De Lijn launched the Brabantnet project. Three new light rail lines will be built, two of which will stop at Brussels Airport;

The Airport Tram will use a route between Brussels Airport and North Brussels, but different from the existing railway line.

The Ring Tram will continue roughly north of the Brussels Ring and connect several Brussels districts with the airport.

The Brabantnet project is planned to be completed in 2020.

To speed up the process, tests of Trambus, the rapid bus transportation system developed by Belgian bus manufacturer Van Hool, started in August 2016. Since these require less cost and investment, the Ring Tram can be put into service as early as 2019. This Trambus solution will be an intermediate step until the tram line is finished.

Bicycle

Brussels Airport has a separate special road for cyclists and pedestrians to reach the airport. There is also a special place to park bicycles. By 2018, a connection will be made between the airport and the Bike Highway Brussels - Leuven. This will increase the rate of employees using bicycles, which is currently 1 percent, when coming to the airport.
