Berlin Airports

Berlin Tegel Airport (IATA: TXL) is the main airport of Berlin, the federal capital of Germany. The airport, which previously served West Berlin, comes before Berlin Schönefeld Airport in the rankings. The airport, named after Otto Lilienthal, was Germany's fourth busiest airport with 20.7 million passengers in 2014. The airport, which is the headquarters of Air Berlin, also serves as a base for Germanwings. From here there are flights to several major European cities and holiday destinations, as well as some intercontinental flights.

The airport is located in Tegel in the northern part of Reinickendorf, 8 km northwest of Berlin city centre. Tegel Airport is known for its hexagonal terminal building and the walking distance from the plane to the terminal exit is 30 meters. The airport will be closed when the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport opens. This is planned to start between the end of 2017 and the end of 2018.

Land Transportation

Tegel Airport does not have a direct railway connection, but is accessible by several buses and highways.

An underground station providing direct access to the airport has been planned since 1960, but it was never built due to the planned closure of the airport. Alt-Tegel U-Bahn station and Tegel S-Bahn station do not provide transportation to the airport, these trains provide transportation to the Tegel district of Berlin.

Vehicle

The airport has a direct connection to the motorway A111 (Exit Flughafen Tegel ), which further connects to the motorways A10, A110 and A115 (via A110), from where there is access in all directions. There are also taxis and car rentals at the airport, and it takes 25 minutes to reach the city center.

Bus

Some of the BVG bus lines reach the airport, and through them it is possible to reach U-Bahn and S-Bahn, Regional Express trains and long-distance trains.
The JetExpress TXL bus runs to Beusselstraße S-Bahn station, Berlin Central station (in 20 minutes), Unter den Linden and Alexanderplatz (in 40 minutes). Some buses stop at the Brandenburg Gate. It departs frequently between 07.00 and 22.00.

Express bus X9 runs to Jakob-Kaiser Platz U-Bahn station (5 minutes), Jungfernheide S-Bahn and Regional Express station and Zoologischer Garten U-Bahn/S-Bahn/Regional Express station (20 minutes).

Bus 109 runs to Jakob-Kaiser Platz U-Bahn station, Charlottenburg S-Bahn and Regional Express station (20 minutes) and Zoologischer Garten U-Bahn/S-Bahn/Regional Express station (30 minutes).

Bus number 128 runs to Kurt-Schumacher-Platz U-Bahn station (10 minutes) and Osloer Straße U-Bahn station (25 minutes).
