About Tunceli
Tunceli, located in the Upper Euphrates region and formerly known as Dersim, is a city that played an important role in the Armenian movements. Ovacık, the first communist municipality, is also in this city.
The city, which was affiliated with Elazığ for a period and later became a province again by taking the name Tunceli, reaches 372 villages. Tunceli, a land of impassable mountains, is a very poor city. Due to insufficient state supports and unsuitable geological structure, there is no industrial development in the region.
Tunceli is known for its hook-horned wild mountain goat. Several tourist centers and thermal springs, famous for their various historical ruins, are among the areas preferred by the local people of Tunceli. This city, which is famous for its walnut trees, honey and dairy product production, is accessible by air from airports in nearby provinces.
In Tunceli, where the highway is not very developed, some roads are still not solid and therefore there are difficulties in transportation. Fixed flights are always organized in the city, where transportation may be difficult due to the terrorism problem.
The city has many historical mosques, mausoleums and ruins, and there are many works that need to be restored and protected.
