August Rodin was one of France’s best known sculptors of the 20th Century. Pieces like ‘The Thinker’ ‘The Kiss’ and ‘The Gates of Hell’ are maybe some of the world’s most recognized marble creations. The Musée Rodin is for these reasons a favorite Parisian destination for visitors in France. The museum actually is divided into two different buildings, in different locations. One at the Hotel Biron in central Paris and the other in the artist’s old home, the Villa des Brillants in a town called Meudon. The Musée Rodin in Paris is an extremely accessible museum with beautiful gardens, covering nearly three hectares, surrounding both the museum and the Hotel Biron, where many of the sculptures are even on display in a very natural setting. The Musée Rodin’s collection is incredibly big and it includes over 6 thousand sculptures, 8 thousand drawings, 8 thousand photographs and 7 thousand artistic objects. These are not all creations of Rodin but parts of his personal collection that include great works of other famous artists, including Vincent van Gogh and Pierre-Auguste, and also collections that have been donated to the museum over the years.
